ARCADE KID
FAMILY ADVENTURE / COMING-OF-AGE | FEATURE | 105 MIN
One quarter. One dream. Game on.
LOGLINE
In 1985 Pennsylvania, eleven-year-old arcade hustler Charlie “Little Wolfey” Wolfey discovers his single mother is about to lose the neighborhood arcade she built from nothing. When a $10,000 video-game tournament offers an impossible way to save it, Charlie turns to a reclusive former game designer to transform raw talent into something that can beat the best players—and the corporate machine stacked against him.
THE STORY
Charlie Wolfey knows three things: video games, bicycles and how to get himself into trouble. Raised inside Wolfey’s Arcade by his fiercely independent mother, Linda, Charlie rules the machines, hustles older kids for quarters and tears through town on his BMX with Penny, Stevo and the rest of his crew. But when overdue bills and a corporate redevelopment plan threaten the only home he has ever known, Charlie discovers being the best kid in the arcade doesn't mean much when the adults can simply take the arcade away.
A spectacularly bad bicycle escape sends Charlie crashing onto the property of Al Barlow, a forgotten game designer surrounded by circuit boards, abandoned prototypes and the wreckage of an industry he helped create. When Charlie discovers a $10,000 ZapCom tournament, Al reluctantly becomes his trainer, pushing him beyond high scores into strategy, endurance and failure as Charlie prepares to face a competition controlled by the same corporate world that burned Al.
GAME ON.
Sometimes one quarter is all you need.
