LOGLINE

In 2874, with civilization collapsing as the mineral powering interstellar travel disappears, Captain Kaia Venn and the crew of the Vagrant discover enough Thren beneath the planet Tirava to save humanity for thousands of years. When they realize the mineral may be part of a living planetary consciousness, Kaia has thirty-six hours before a military fleet arrives to begin extraction.

THE STORY

Humanity spans more than 170 inhabited systems, but every colony, supply route and medical shipment depends on Thren and the Slip technology it powers. When Captain Kaia Venn and the Vagrant discover an unprecedented deposit beneath Tirava, three enormous pulses from below the surface lead scientist Sela Orin to a terrifying possibility: humanity's greatest resource may not be a resource at all.

Then Admiral Cero Vask arrives with extraction ships, evidence that billions could die without new Thren and thirty-six hours before mining begins. As Tirava reacts to the drills and the Vagrant's AI OLOS begins questioning whether humanity can be trusted with what it has found, Kaia is trapped between three competing forms of survival—humanity's, Tirava's and the intelligence humanity created to protect itself.
