Stranded in the American West, an alien named Kal must find the rare mineral capable of saving his dying home world before his time on Earth runs out. Able to imitate human faces, voices and bodies—but not the lives behind them—his search draws a ruthless railroad surveyor into the hunt and forces Kal to depend on the very humans his mission was never supposed to involve.

THE STORY

Kal comes to Earth with one purpose: find the mineral his dying world needs before time runs out. Built to adapt, he can copy a face, voice and body—but not history, grief, loyalty or love—and the American frontier becomes his brutal education in humanity as he moves through saloons, mining camps, rail lines and settlements wearing borrowed faces.

When a powerful railroad surveyor connects Kal's impossible sightings to valuable mineral deposits, curiosity becomes pursuit and the people sheltering the stranger become part of the hunt. As Kal draws closer to what he crossed the stars to find, his mission collides with something he never expected to discover on Earth: a reason to care what happens after he leaves.
