20 days in lander

FEATURE | 102 MIN | AMERICANA / DRAMEDY / ROAD MOVIE

The road was supposed to change his life. Then the road stopped.

LOGLINE

In the dead of winter, Jack Stanton leaves rural Vermont with his fast-talking friend Tommy, a beat-up ’89 Ford F-150, a U-Haul and a cat, chasing a new life in Jackson Hole. But after a Wyoming arrest strands Jack in the Lander County Jail for twenty days, his great escape west becomes a road movie with nowhere left to go.

THE STORY

Jack thinks movement is the same thing as progress, until he lands in a single jail room with six cells, twelve bunks, one bathroom and eleven strangers who have nowhere to hide from one another. Christmas approaches beneath fluorescent lights as three meals a day, endless Jerry Springer, bullshit, jokes and the strange rituals of confinement turn a miserable holding cell into its own temporary little country.

The men bust each other's balls, trade stories and slowly reveal the lives waiting—or not waiting—for them outside, while Jack begins noticing people instead of simply looking for the next exit. What starts as twenty days he desperately wants to erase becomes the first time in his young life he's forced to stay still long enough to see who he might actually become.

THE ROAD STOPS HERE.

Sometimes you have to stop moving to figure out where you're going.
