Burned-out American wine journalist Jack Stanton lands in New Zealand for a disposable Central Otago Pinot Noir assignment, but a brutal misunderstanding over his red shoes puts him in the care of a reformed Māori motorcycle crew. What begins as a story Jack can exploit becomes a journey that forces him to decide whether everything in his life is still material.

THE STORY

Jack knows wine, restaurants and how to leave before anything gets personal—until Rangi “The Wolf” Tūwhare and the Mystics put him in a sidecar and carry him across New Zealand's South Island. Between motorcycles, marae, meat pies, breweries and vineyards, Jack discovers a community built around a rule he has never learned to live by: Guest first. Writer later.

As Jack trades wine lessons for lessons in restraint, respect and belonging, the assignment begins turning into something far more dangerous to a man who makes his living observing other people's lives: his own life starts changing. And when Jack realizes the people who rescued him may also be the story that could resurrect his career, the road forces him toward a choice between the story he can sell and the trust he has finally earned.
