He prepared for everything… except the trip.

LOGLINE

France, 2004. When 27-year-old sommelier Jack Stanton unexpectedly wins a prestigious wine competition, his prize sends him to Champagne—where a bomb scare, transit strikes and a disappearing liaison leave the obsessively prepared American stranded between Paris and Reims. To reach the dinner waiting for him, Jack will have to abandon the itinerary and trust everyone but himself.

THE STORY

Jack arrives in France with a tuxedo, tasting notes and a plan for practically every minute of the trip. Then the plan detonates, sending him through train stations, cafés, bars and wine country with no working phone, little access to money and one increasingly impossible objective: get to Ruinart.

Help comes from strangers—a helpful Brit, a woman in Épernay, a pop-loving cabdriver—and from the steak-frites, Belgian beer and glasses of wine Jack never scheduled time to enjoy. Somewhere between being hopelessly lost and spectacularly late, a young sommelier who thought knowing everything was the job begins discovering that the stories worth telling are usually the ones nobody planned.

THE AMERICAN IS HERE.

Sometimes getting lost is how you find the story.
