the vault
Stories have been traveling with me my whole life.
I grew up opening and closing my mother’s VHS store, walking the aisles with customers and figuring out what they should take home. Golden Age Hollywood. B-horror and science fiction. Erotic thrillers. New Line, Cannon, Troma, Carolco, Island, Full Moon. Different shelves. Different worlds. All stories.
That education never really stopped. Thirty-plus years of travel filled notebooks with people, places, conversations, strange encounters and ideas that followed me home. Some became characters. Some became worlds. Some waited years for the right story.
The Vault is where they live now.
Horror. Thrillers. Science fiction. Comedy. Animation. Adventure. Features and long-form series. The genre changes, but the obsession doesn’t: complicated characters, fully imagined worlds and familiar things seen from a slightly crooked angle.
These stories have been traveling with me for a long time.
Now I get to write them for people who love stories as much as I do.

FRED DEX
SCREENWRITER • STORY CREATOR • WORLD BUILDER
Fred Dex grew up in his mother’s arcade and VHS store, cataloging thousands of movies before he knew that counted as an education.
Thirty years in hospitality, bartending, wine and restaurants took him around the world and filled his head with characters, disasters, overheard conversations and stories.
Eventually, Fred hung up the corkscrew for the pen.
